UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ - Conserving and replenishing our natural resources is more important than ever. As part of its commitment to environmental consciousness, Hunter Douglas, a leading manufacturer and marketer of custom window fashions, has agreed to make an annual contribution to the Arbor Day Foundation®, the largest conservation organization of its kind, which encourages such replenishment through its mission to "inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees."
The Hunter Douglas donation will be split evenly between tree reforestation and rain forest preservation programs, with 50 percent going to replant trees in the United States damaged by fire and 50 percent to the Foundation's Rain Forest Rescue® program. The total amount of the annual Hunter Douglas contribution will reflect the number of trees used annually for its Heritance® hardwood shutters, Country Woods® and Chalet Woods® wood blinds over the course of the year beginning 2008.
"To restore the consumption of our renewable wood products, Hunter Douglas is committed to protecting the environment by replenishing trees and globally preserving rain forests," says Kevin Armstrong, vice president and general manager of the horizontal blinds division. "In 2008 our contribution will plant 15,000 trees and preserve more than a million square feet of rain forest.
"We wanted to replant trees in the U.S., and bring a global focus to our efforts with the Rain Forest Rescue program. Even though none of the trees we use come from the rain forest, we recognize its importance to the health of the planet," adds Armstrong. "By partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation, we hope to increase consumer awareness and encourage conservation, both in the home and outside of the home."
