NTMA Announces Call for Entries

Dec. 30, 2008

The National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association (NTMA®) has announced the Call for Entry for the 2009 Honor Awards. These awards honor the best terrazzo installations completed within the calendar year (2008) and are judged on excellence in craftsmanship; originality of ideas; intricacy of design; artistic and faithful reproduction of the architects' or designers' drawings; scope of work; and quality of construction materials.

Architects, designers, building owners and others are eligible to submit entries, but an NTMA member contractor must have completed the terrazzo floor.

"For over 30 years the NTMA Honor Awards have consistently honored the most impressive terrazzo installations in the country," states NTMA president Michael Maraldo. "The floors recognized by this program exemplify the outstanding craftsmanship and beauty for which terrazzo is famous."

Award-winning jobs have ranged from Art in Public Places projects, large utilitarian floors, renovations of existing terrazzo, to outdoor rustic installations. Building types have included hospitals, schools, airports, commercial and public spaces, and private residences. The 2009 honor awards will also note those installations that contributed to a LEED certification for the building in which they were installed.

Examples of previous Honor Award-winning jobs can be found at www.ntma.com. For entry forms, call (800) 323-9736.
