Final Call for Students to Enter Lighting Design Contest

March 30, 2009

OPA LOCKA, FL – The deadline is fast approaching for the “It’s Your Light” student design competition sponsored by South Florida manufacturer Luraline Lighting.

Entries are due by May 1, 2009, for the eighth annual contest, which solicits original concepts for lighting fixtures from design and architecture students at schools and universities across the country. The winning student receives a $1,500 cash prize, which is sure to be more sought-after than ever in these tough economic times.

This year’s competition focuses on “High-Performance Lighting.”

“We are looking for environmentally friendly lighting that goes beyond energy-efficiency,” explains Luraline Lighting president Howard Levine. “True high-performance luminaires provide a complete lighting solution by maximizing the levels of usable light and minimizing waste through methods such as optics, controls and cut-off features, among others.”

For the first time this year, students are entering the contest and submitting their designs online through Luraline's Web site. Full details and extensive educational resources on this year's theme may be found on the site, as well as registration, rules and requirements, and special tips for winning. Entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts, with the winner announced in June 2009.
