New Executive A&D Masters Program Announced

April 13, 2009

SAN DIEGO, CA – NewSchool of Architecture and Design recently announced it is introducing a new class of its Executive Masters Program in Architecture. The program, delivered in weekend sessions, is uniquely designed for practicing architects pursuing a first professional degree to teach or gain reciprocal state licensure.

“The Executive Masters Program is a special opportunity for architects to complete a professional degree in less than one year,” says Dr. Steve Altman, president of NewSchool. “From sustainable design to international urban planning issues, today’s architects must understand a broad range of dynamic issues and challenges in their careers. This program provides information and training for enhancing career opportunities, as well as for reciprocal privileges or teaching qualifications.”

The program is designed to meet the needs of working professionals, with three quarters of study and classes held at NewSchool in alternate weekend sessions. The focus of the program is the Design Studio, where students study a variety of contemporary topics such as theory, practice and design. Thesis Integration is the final element of the curriculum. Lecture sessions include cutting-edge topics such as Neuroscience for Architecture, Evidence-based Design, Mapping as Design Methodology, and Trans-national Border Issues.

NewSchool’s faculty includes industry practitioners, further enhancing the program’s value for professionals. “NewSchool is looking forward to the start of the 2009 Executive Masters Program,” says Kurt Hunker, chair of the graduate program. “Our team of experienced faculty has crafted a stimulating set of activities for the incoming class.”
