IIDA Chapter Announces 2009 Calibre Award Winners

May 19, 2009

LOS ANGELES – The Southern California Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) recently announced its 2009 Calibre Award winners at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. More than 700 designers and industry influentials attended the event to honor their peers in the design community as well as support the IIDA Southern California Chapter’s student scholarship program.

“The Calibre Awards celebrate the synergy of a successful team and acknowledge the vast support required for interior design firms to create and execute the projects they envision with their clients,” says Barbara Dunn, president, IIDA Southern California Chapter. “We congratulate all of this year’s winners and their collaboration to create beautiful and responsibly built environments. We are also especially pleased to recognize our scholarship award winners who will shape the design trends of tomorrow.”

Recognizing that a successful project involves a team approach, the Calibre Awards honor project teams—rather than one individual or company—for significant contributions to design excellence. Nominated by the design firm responsible for the project, the project teams consist of up to five companies essential to the success of the project. This year, nominations were judged by the IIDA Illinois Chapter.

Now in its 21st year, the awards event also endows a scholarship fund that recognizes exceptional students who represent the future of quality design. This year, more than $19,000 in scholarships was given to area design students. In total, the IIDA Southern California Chapter has awarded approximately $265,000 in scholarships.
