LANCASTER, PA – As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Armstrong Flooring Products recently announced that its Center, Texas, engineered hardwood manufacturing plant has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification.
According to Daniel Call, vice president, Wood Product Management, “FSC certification is a measure of our commitment to environmental stewardship, which includes sustainable forest management. Our compliance with the rigorous FSC process gives our customers added confidence to promote Armstrong® and Bruce® hardwood to consumers interested in ‘green’ products.”
Built in the early 1950s, the Center, Texas, facility is Armstrong’s oldest hardwood plant. The 200-plus employees make residential and commercial flooring for the Armstrong, Bruce and Capella® hardwood lines, including popular products like Armstrong Beckford™ Plank and Bruce American Originals™. Now the plant can produce FSC-certified products in multiple domestic species, including oak, maple, hickory and walnut. The plant’s first order of FSC-certified wood—150,000 square feet of Bruce Turlington™ Lock&Fold® maple flooring—is being shipped to a project in New York City this month.
All Armstrong domestically produced engineered hardwood meets Phase 2 of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) composite wood standards. Armstrong is the first hardwood flooring manufacturer to achieve Phase 2 CARB compliance across four facilities.
