MUSCATINE, IOWA – The HON Company's Chicago Showroom, located on the 11th floor of The Merchandise Mart, has received LEED® for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) Silver certification.
At 9,760 square feet, the space was recently redesigned to be a flexible, sustainable pavilion that embraces the direction of HON's newest products and exhibits design features that indicate the performance desired in future work settings.
"We were thrilled to receive the news that our Chicago Showroom achieved LEED-CI Silver certification," says Betsy Hoye, showroom, advertising and public relations manager for The HON Company. "While this is our first showroom to receive LEED certification, sustainability is not a new concept to HON—we've been environmentally responsible since our company's inception more than 60 years ago. And as we continue to enhance our existing facilities and build new showrooms, sustainability is one of our top priorities."
HON partnered with SmithGroup, a leading architecture and engineering firm, on the redesign of the showroom. The two organizations worked hand-in-hand to create a sustainable showcase for one of the largest providers of practical, professional office furniture.
The space creatively maximizes exposure to daylight and views with an open pavilion of flexible zones. Based on program and proximity to daylight or exposure to The Merchandise Mart corridor, the zones are arranged into four main lateral pavilions: showcase, product, collaboration and community.
To complete the sustainable theme in the showroom, HON used numerous recycled materials throughout, including doors, glass, carpet and custom recycling bins.
