CHICAGO – A new Web site, www.eco-intel.com, has been launched by A Better Tomorrow Media to clear up the confusion surrounding the terms “green” and “sustainability” in regard to buildings. By creating a community of building professionals who can comment and share experiences, the site offers real-world guidance and technical information to achieve a high-performance building with cost-effective solutions.
In addition to the latest news and green building-industry-related events, the site contains four key sections: Design, Building Science and Performance, Business, and Materials. Each section caters to the stakeholders of the integrated design process by providing thought-provoking content through case studies and lessons learned. In addition, the Business section may discuss insurance, legal issues, cap and trade, and other issues affecting today’s building professionals. Each article can be complemented with photos, slideshows, video or audio to assist understanding of the material. The site also features contemplative blogs from industry professionals.
The founder of the site, Christina Koch, LEED AP, previously was editor-in-chief of a nationally circulated green-building magazine. “As I traveled around the country talking to architects, engineers, contractors and manufacturers, I listened to the types of issues they were struggling with when it came to high-performance buildings,” she says. “I realized there was no single source available for proven how-to content to ensure green buildings perform better than their traditionally constructed counterparts. An online format allows for constant updates, creating a dynamic resource for building professionals who are grappling with green design and construction every day.”
Koch recruited an impressive group of industry experts to advise about the site’s content, including Paul Bertram Jr., FCSI, CDT, LEED AP, director of environment and sustainability for Kingspan North America, Deland, FL; Heather Gadonniex, LEED AP, founder of Green It Group, San Francisco; Scott Kriner, LEED AP, principal of Green Metal Consulting, Macungie, PA; George Sullivan, principal of EcoSmart Building PC, Chicago; Thomas Taylor, LEED AP, general manager of Vertegy, St. Louis; Vuk Vujovic, LEED AP, director of sustainability for Legat Architects, Chicago, and chair of the AIA Chicago Committee on the Environment; and Ujjval Vyas, Ph.D., J.D., LEED AP, principal of Alberti Group, Chicago.
