Teknion Opens Newly Redesigned Showroom in New York City

Nov. 23, 2009

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ – Teknion Corporation recently announced the official opening of its redesigned showroom in New York City, located at 641 Avenue of the Americas. Featured are innovative new designs from Teknion’s integrated product portfolio that support new ways of work while creating healthy, productive environments.

“Our New York showroom was planned to show architects and designers our latest workplace design sensibilities and best applications of Teknion products as they relate to today’s emerging workplace trends,” says Maxine Mann, president of Teknion’s U.S. operations. “Teknion’s newly renovated and refitted New York showroom—by Vanderbyl Design—makes a strong design statement with minimal environmental impact.”

Aside from the original exterior walls of the 22,000-square-foot, second-story loft, most perimeter walls are created with Teknion’s Altos and Optos full-height architectural products. Clear glass featured extensively in the private offices allows natural light to penetrate deep into the space.

The main open area of the showroom—defined by large, suspended black-and-white photographic panels depicting a natural birch forest—encompasses a series of workstations typical of today’s open, collaborative and creative workplaces. District furniture groupings demonstrate a variety of permanent address, temporary and shared workstations, and show how District creates more or less privacy with panels and storage, and how surfaces can be arranged to enhance communication.

Two pairs of low, simple Leverage panel-based workstations make best use of the available light with their generous use of glass and create an elegant, open design. These are typical of the kind of product options from Teknion that support LEED credits for Daylight and Views. The Marketplace worktable is featured in two linear displays—as a shared-address touchdown space and as an intensive computing area.

Furniture displayed in the showroom is finished in various combinations of Storm White and Dark Olive veneer, with glass, anodized aluminum and Platinum accents. The combination is dramatic but restrained, with Dark Olive adding the warmth of a natural material to the cool feel of the overall workstations.

“In today’s workplace, light, open interiors are combined with good air quality to ensure a healthy work environment for employees, and that was our goal with the New York showroom,” says Mann. “Teknion furniture uses materials and finishing methods that create products certified to GREENGUARD standards and that are in line with LEED credits for Low-Emitting Materials. To support sustainable forestry practices, all of our wood furniture—particleboard, MDF and veneers—is certified to FSC standards. Our showroom successfully creates a dramatic new backdrop with minimal construction and environmental impact.”
