Award-Winning Aqua Tower Mixes Unique, Award-Winning Architecture with Remarkable Views

Nov. 30, 2009

The Aqua is the first high-rise in Chicago designed to blend condos, rental apartments, hotel rooms, and retail spaces in a single structure

The internationally acclaimed Aqua, designed by Jeanne Gang, principal of Studio/Gang Architects, is the tallest building in the United States designed by a woman-led architectural team, and the first high-rise in Chicago designed to blend condos, rental apartments, hotel rooms, and retail spaces in a single structure. It has already won several design awards.

Condos begin on the 53rd floor and rise to the penthouse level on the 81st floor. The 262 Aqua condos range from studios and three bedrooms to customized duplex and single-level penthouses.

The combination of unique, award-winning architecture, highlighted by spectacular undulating balconies and incomparable views of Lake Michigan, the Chicago River, and the city skyline, make Aqua an innovative addition to Chicago’s architectural heritage.

Its dramatic design is produced by outdoor balconies and terraces that form unique, undulating contours of different sizes and shapes that change gradually from the lower to the higher part of the building.

It incorporates all the elements of a traditional city community, a lifestyle center that includes homes, retail, recreational opportunities, and amenities, such as a lush, 6-acre public park and a planned elementary school.
