IIDA Announces Call for Entries for Design Competitions

Continuing its commitment to honor design excellence, the International Interior Design Association recently announced the 2010 Call for Entries for IIDA's Interior Design Competition and Will Ching Design Competition. 

CHICAGO – Continuing its commitment to honor design excellence, the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) recently announced the 2010 Call for Entries for IIDA's Interior Design Competition and Will Ching Design Competition. 

The 37th annual Interior Design Competition serves to recognize and reward outstanding interior design, and to encourage new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of interior spaces. This competition honors outstanding design in the following areas of practice: Corporate, Education/Institutional, Government, Health Care, Hospitality, Residential, and Retail/Showroom. 

The winners of last year’s Interior Design Competition included:

  1. Project: Greenhouse Nightclub – New York, NY
    Firm: Bluarch Architecture + Interiors – New York, NY
  2. Project: Nishimura Restaurant, Shangri-La Hotel – Beijing, CHINA
    Firm: CL3 Architects Limited – Hong Kong, CHINA
  3. Project: Museum of Tolerance – Los Angeles, CA
    Firm: Yazdani Studio of Cannon Design – Los Angeles, CA
  4. Project: Fornari Headquarters – Milan, ITALY
    Firm: Giorgio Borruso Design – Marina Del Rey, CA
  5. Project: Wing Luke Asian Museum – Seattle, WA
    Firm: Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects – Seattle, WA
  6. Project: Cathedral of Christ the Light – Oakland, CA
    Firm: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP – San Francisco, CA

The Best of Competition Award was given to Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP for the Cathedral of Christ the Light.

The 18th annual Will Ching Design Competition seeks to recognize and reward talented designers working in firms of five or fewer employees and to encourage new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of commercial spaces. The winning project for last year’s Will Ching Design Competition was Gallery More North in New York, NY, designed by KOKO Architecture + Design of New York, NY.

For both competitions, submissions will be judged for suitability of design to the project challenge, originality of the design solution, and the successful integration of interior finishes and furnishings. The winner is determined by a jury of design professionals. Design projects eligible for submission must have been completed after January 1, 2008. To learn more, download the call for entries from www.iida.org.

All winners of the competitions will be announced at IIDA’s NeoCon® celebration COOL. The deadline to request an entry kit is Wednesday, February 10, 2010. The deadline to submit completed entries is Wednesday, February 17, 2010.
