SALT LAKE CITY – 3form, an architectural materials specialist, recently announced that the grand prize winner of the Fourth Annual People’s Choice Installation Contest is the Rio Hondo Screen, a sculptural screen located in the lobby of the Rio Hondo College Library in California. Jacksonville Mall, in North Carolina, took first place in the Commercial category of the People’s Choice Contest. This exciting project is notable for the custom 3form Light Art fixture used in the entrance of the mall.
The contest drew entries from all over the country and even saw entries from South America, Taiwan and elsewhere worldwide. In all 134 commercial and 68 residential projects were submitted.

The Rio Hondo Screen is a sculptural screen designed by AC Martin Partners as a focal point of the lobby of the Rio Hondo Library that recalls a rushing stream, paying tribute to the “rio” of Rio Hondo College. To achieve the ethereal centerpiece, the team at AC Martin used neutral tinted 3form Varia Ecoresin specified as off-the-shelf Shapes in Valley and installed with 3form Suspend Hardware.
Shoppers of the Jacksonville Mall in North Carolina will notice a custom 3form Light Art fixture, made from ribbon strips of 3form Varia Ecoresin in Firefly, in the mall’s lobby, before they walk in the door. The vibrant red of the 3form material shines brilliantly through the two-story glass curtain wall.
CREATE Architecture, the design firm for the Jacksonville Mall, had the challenge of creating an affordable entryway feature. Using 3form custom Light Art, they created a large red iconic installation to meet their budget of $10,000, which included crating and shipping.
Additionally, a private residence kitchen, designed by Dorado Designs in Tucson, Arizona, was chosen in the residential category for its ¾-inch Creekside Glass hood enclosure. The ¾-inch-thick Creekside pattern was selected to create a dramatic focal point in the home.
