Johnsonite’s ‘Collage of Possibilities’ Raises Support, Awareness

July 9, 2010

CHAGRIN FALLS, OHIO – Johnsonite®, a Tarkett company and provider of some of the world’s most integrated high-performance flooring system, hosted an interactive design event during NeoCon® World’s Trade Fair 2010 in Chicago. Johnsonite invited show attendees to place a sample of its flooring tile on a “Collage of Possibilities,” and pledged to increase its product donation to Architecture for Humanity for each tile that was placed.

Due to excellent event attendance, Johnsonite will donate 3,000 square feet of Harmonium xf Linoleum Flooring to Architecture for Humanity for relief efforts in Haiti.

The “Collage of Possibilities” brought show attendees together, allowing them to create a visual representation of the positive change they could make in communities when people work together. The tiles placed on the collage were samples of Johnsonite’s rubber and linoleum flooring products.

“We believe that our efforts to create positive change should extend beyond sustainable building products and practices and should reach into the communities those buildings serve,” says Diane Martel, vice president, environmental planning and strategy for Tarkett North America. “NeoCon is a show that gathers architects and designers together to introduce them to new things: products and ideas that can change the industry. We thought it was the perfect venue to encourage creativity and transformation on a different level. It’s about being good stewards of the Earth and good neighbors to the people who live on it.”

Architecture for Humanity is a nonprofit design services firm with a network of more than 40,000 professionals that brings design, construction and development services to where they are most critically needed, directly benefiting 10,000 people each year.

“Architecture for Humanity is grateful to Johnsonite for their product contribution to help rebuild in Haiti,” says Barb Alvarado, director of development for the foundation. "[We have] significant experience in leading the reconstruction of transitional and permanent infrastructure in post-disaster contexts. Already working in Haiti prior to the earthquake, Architecture for Humanity has also been involved in rebuilding efforts post-Tsunami in India and Sri Lanka and in the Gulf Coast after hurricane Katrina."
