WASHINGTON – Registration for interior designers to sign up as mentors for RealWorld DesignWeek (RWDW), the annual nationwide job shadowing program created by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), is officially open. The program offers a unique and exclusive opportunity, pairing ASID student members with ASID interior design professionals and Industry Partners to take part in one-day job shadow experiences November 7 – 13, 2010.
RealWorld DesignWeek is the first cohesive, national program aimed at educating future interior designers through in-person experience. It empowers students to succeed in the industry and build relationships with the design community, providing them with the tools to jump-start their careers.
“My teachers tell me all the time about the specifications, but until today I didn’t realize how massive it can all be,” says Alisen Williams, Student Member, about her 2009 RWDW experience.
“It is important for practitioners to understand how easy it is to work a student visit into your schedule,” notes Deborah Lloyd Forrest, FASID, principal of Forrest Perkins. “Students just want to understand a little bit better what a firm accomplishes in a day or a week or a month, and any insight we can give them into that process is very welcome and appreciated.”
