MARIETTA, GA – For Mohawk Industries, sustainability isn’t a buzz word; it is a core value. This year, to formally recognize many long-standing practices, Mohawk is unveiling its first annual sustainability report, A Better World by Design—available exclusively online at www.mohawksustainability.com.
The report details the company’s focus on sustainable products, its people and practices which support the planet; and its virtual delivery highlights the company’s goals of finding sustainable ways of sharing information.
As a global company operating on three continents, Mohawk has set the international flooring industry standard for commitment to corporate sustainability.
“Mohawk is a company centered around bringing value to everything we do,” explains Jeff Lorberbaum, chairman and chief executive officer of Mohawk Industries. “Innovations that bring about positive change to our business, our stakeholders and our communities are the foundations of this report.”
From the millions of bottles recycled yearly and made into carpet in Summerville, GA, to the environmentally friendly laminate products manufactured in Europe and North Carolina, Mohawk continues to lead by example.
“It’s not simply about being ‘green,’” adds William Kilbride, chief sustainability officer at Mohawk Industries. “We must ensure that the environment and all of our stakeholders benefit in the long run. That is only achieved through open and honest communication.”
Teams from Dal-Tile, Mohawk Flooring and Unilin have dedicated their time, research and efforts toward creating truly sustainable products and implementing new practices that not only benefit the environment, but also Mohawk’s customers and end-users.
“A Better World by Design is a comprehensive report constructed according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines,” says Jenny Cross, global sustainability director at Mohawk. “GRI is the only globally-recognized, comprehensive platform for sustainability reporting.”
Over the past several years, Mohawk has taken a strong position of providing customers and consumers with certification and validation of all sustainable products and practices. Mohawk’s first sustainability report provides this same level of confidence.
“Sustainability is about transparency and assurance,” adds Cross. “We felt it was our duty to provide our stakeholders with a report backed by solid documentation, and third-party assurance from an internationally recognized sustainability auditing firm.”
The sustainability team at Mohawk enlisted FIRA as the report assurance provider. FIRA, headquartered in The Netherlands, is a global company that has worked with several best-in-class companies and has in-depth knowledge of sustainability and GRI.
Part of Mohawk’s overall commitment to sustainability includes placing access to the report completely online to save paper resources. To access the first annual Mohawk sustainability report, visit www.mohawksustainability.com.
