IIDA Launches Emerge Milan Product Competition

Young designers can create innovative interior products for a chance to win a trip to the 2013 iSaloni show.

CHICAGO—The International Interior Design Association (IIDA), FederlegnoArredo and the Italian Minister of Economic Development announce a new competition, called the Emerge Milan Product Competition: an Italian Design Experience.

The competition was created to recognize and celebrate the next generation of young design professionals whose product designs are innovative, functional and original.

The winning design will be produced by an Italian design company and exhibited at the 2014 Salone Internazionale del Mobile show in Milan. Additionally, the winning designer and their design director or principal will each win a trip to Milan to attend the 2013 Salone Internazionale del Mobile, to be held April 9-14, 2013. The honorable mention winners and their design director or principal will also win a trip to Milan to attend the show

“IIDA is excited to make this unique opportunity available to young designers,” says Cheryl S. Durst, Honorary FIIDA, LEED AP, executive vice president and CEO, IIDA. “Their work will not only be highlighted on the world stage, but also manufactured and brought to market, allowing them to gain unprecedented exposure.”

Designers will be challenged to create a fresh, innovative product with market potential that embodies contemporary North American design companioned with a nod to Italian urban style. Products can be submitted in the following categories: chairs, stools, benches, tables, beds (excluding retail), doors, storage units/systems and sofas.
