The Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) announces Dr. John Martin-Rutherford as the 2013-2014 president. He, along with three officers, four directors and three regional chairs, started his term on May 1, 2013.
Martin-Rutherford is Department Chair of the Interior Design Program at Harrington College of Design in Chicago. His career has combined the pursuit of education – resulting in five degrees – with teaching and administration, along with professional endeavors as an interior designer, architect and urban designer.
In addition to his position at Harrington College of Design, Martin-Rutherford was vice-president of the California Legislative Council on Interior Design, is a Registered Interior Designer in Illinois, a Licensed Architect in California, and has earned certification from the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
While addressing the IDEC membership at the 2013 Annual Conference, Martin-Rutherford dedicated his term as president to strengthening the organization through membership growth and increased member involvement. He adds, “it has always been my goal to try to help the interior design professional organizations work together and present one powerful voice in our efforts to define the profession.”
