Wolf-Gordon Presents New Escalator Sculpture at NeoCon

June 5, 2013
Sculpture will be located at the “town square” of the Merchandise Mart.

Wolf-Gordon has created a temporary, site-specific installation that will sweep through the main escalator space between the first and second floors of the Merchandise Mart during NeoCon 2013. For the second year in a row, Marybeth Shaw, the company’s chief creative officer, has teamed up with designers, karlssonwilker, and fabricators, The Guild, to assemble a dramatic welcome for show attendees.

Titled “Force of Nature”, the sculpture is a spiral array of 75 8-foot long panels and references the power of natural forces that are having an increasing impact on human habitats, behaviors and policies, while focusing on their more constructive, aesthetic qualities. The panels are covered, front and back, with Wolf-Gordon wallcovering and upholstery textile items, and are arrayed as a color spectrum, from white to red on one side, and from black to green on the other.

The result is an ever-changing “landscape” of color for attendees to enjoy as they ride up the escalator and walk around the second floor viewing area. The escalator is located at the “town square” of the Mart, on a direct path from the most highly trafficked entry and across from the building’s food court.

“Force of Nature” is Wolf-Gordon’s second site-specific art installation created for NeoCon. The company previously sponsored the escalator “air space” at last year’s show with “Canopy”,  an asymmetrical, crystalline structure.

“We are delighted to design and sponsor the ‘Force of Nature’ installation at NeoCon 2013, and believe it will greatly animate the central core of the Mart during the show,” says Rick Wolf, president and CEO with Wolf-Gordon. “The sculpture’s energy represents the expansive work we are doing on product design and development at Wolf-Gordon across wallcovering and textile categories, and the excitement we feel as a company.”
