Freelance landscape designer and photographer Michael Payton was the April 2015 winner of the Design Trust for Public Space’s monthly photo competition on Instagram. Established to create a conversation surrounding public space and their future potential, the contest asks participants to post their favorite New York City public spot with the tags #ILovePublicSpace and @designtrustnyc.
“Brooklyn Bridge Park connects the city to the river, highlighting ecological features of the waterfront. Not only a place for recreation, the park serves as a laboratory for hands-on investigation of urban ecologies, incorporating inquiry-based and experimental learning,” Payton said about his piece. “These photos were made on a foggy Saturday morning for an event called ‘Seining the River Wild,’ where children learn from scientists about the remarkable creatures of the East River.”
