Check out HON's industry recap for answers

In order to fulfill the needs of its customers, the HON Company stays on top of developments in the modern office, and offers a recap of industry happenings. “We forecast true needs, not trends,” said Aaron Finn, vice president of the manufacturer.

HON’s first tip is never to paint your office walls white, citing a University of Texas study that tested the impact of color on employees. While white might feel crisp and clean like a blank slate, “[it] doesn’t help us be productive,” said Nancy Kwallek, researcher at UT. Recommendations include red for detail-oriented workers, blue for creative types, and green for inspiring innovation. Yellow should be avoided in conference rooms, and gray altogether because it can be suppressive. For more advice, visit HON’s 2015 Color Inspiration on Pinterest.

HON has also observed a renaissance of mid-century design—thanks in part to the popularity of the office drama “Mad Men.” Agency décor has worked its way into today’s workplaces. “The 1960s was an era where modernism flourished,” explained Troy Williams, director of seating, tables, and education for HON. “Clean lines and sleek designers were emphasized, with an overall minimalistic approach.” HON has instilled these concepts in two lounge and collaborative collections: Endorse and Flock.
