ASID Opens Doors to New Corporate HQ in Washington

July 28, 2016

In late June, ASID made the move to its new 8,500-square-foot headquarters in Washington, D.C. Designed by Perkins+Will, the space centers around the philosophy of holistic wellness, tying in health, well-being, and sustainability. It is registered for the WELL Building Standard and LEED, and is on target to achieve platinum level for both.

Incorporating innovative features such as a circadian lighting system and fully automated shades that adjust based on solar positioning, biophilic design strategies exist throughout the building, including a screen displaying real-time environmental attributes from sound levels to air and water quality to electrical consumption. The effort of the features combined aims to create a space that supports health and well-being, and improves the organization's productivity, engagement, and retention, while focusing on the seven principals of WELL: air and water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind.

Additionally, the office will work as a study center to help the industry better understand the impact of wellness. Funded by the ASID Foundation and in partnership with Cornell University, staff members volunteered to participate in a pre- and post-occupancy research study, evaluating how the design for the new space has continued toward a healthier lifestyle and increased productivity.
