Porcelanosa Launches Bathroom Collection with the Late Hadid

Oct. 25, 2016

Porcelanosa, the Spanish manufacturer of high-end kitchen, tile, bath, and hardwood products, has partnered with the legendary late architect Zaha Hadid on a bathroom collection called Vitae which focuses on the fluidity of water. Hadid is widely regarded as one of the greatest architects in the world, having led such innovative works as The Peak in Hong Kong, the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, and the Cardiff Bay Opera House in Wales.

The Vitae (meaning “life” in Latin) Collection features a groundbreaking design in the style of Hadid. Fluid lines that evoke water flow are the theme of the collection, with a name that illustrates the belief that water is where life begins for many. The collection comprises nine selections, including faucets, mirrors, a bathtub, washbasins, a toilet, bidet, and shelving. Dynamic in its shapes and serving up an avant-garde personality, Vitae elements present themselves as essential for the bathroom of the future.

Born in Baghdad in 1950, Hadid studied mathematics at the American University of Beirut before starting her architectural journey in 1972 at the Architectural Association in London and establishing her own practice there—Zaha Hadid Architects—in 1979 before earning recognition worldwide. Working with office partner Patrik Schumacher, her interest was in the interface between architecture, landscape, and geology; her practice integrated the use of innovative technologies, often resulting in unexpected and dynamic architectural forms. In 2004, Hadid was the first woman to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize. She was twice awarded the UK’s most prestigious architecture award, the RIBA Stirling Prize.
