As an iconic figure of interior design of the 20th century, Charlotte Perriand, alongside peers incuding Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, created furniture like the LC4 chaise that is now considered a definitive piece from the period. Her groundbreaking work with metal was notable in driving the machine-age aesthetic popular in the 1920s and '30s.
“Complete Works. Volume 3: 1956 – 1968” is the third installment in a planned four-part series. During the 1956 to 1968 period, Perriand forged a relationship with the Galerie Steph Simon in France, which exhibited and published some of her most famous work, as well as that of renowned contemporaries Georges Jouve, Serge Mouille, and Jean Prouvé.
Throughout the 1960s, Perriand completed several high-profile projects, most of which are published in this volume for the first time. Her work during this time included comprehensive branding and designs for Air France’s international offices and the renovation of the Palais des Nations, where many of the assembly halls she decorated and her furniture designs remain, relatively unchanged. The new book also expansively documents her close, yet little-known, links to Brazil.
Covering these important turning points and many others, “Complete Works: Volume 3” continues the exploration of Perriand as a key figure in design, complete with annotations and a bibliography for further research.
