Aquafil Makes Appearance at Milan Fashion Week

Oct. 17, 2017

Top names in fashion like Gisele Bundchen, Dakota Johnson, Naomi Campbell, and more, in addition to world-renowned clothing designers, walked on a green carpet produced by Aquafil that was featured at the Green Fashion Awards recently held at the iconic La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy.

The 1,500-square-yard green carpet with flower and fruit motifs was made entirely out of ECONYL® fibers, the 100-percent regenerated nylon 6 by Aquafil.

Giulio Bonazzi, president and CEO of Aquafil, explained, “ECONYL raw materials are discarded fish nets from Norway, Scotland, and the Philippines; old carpets from the USA; textile waste from Italy and China; and otherwise unusable plastic scraps.” The world of fashion was intrigued by the ECONYL message, Bonazzi said. “We have signed 170 licensing agreements with fashion brands such as Stella McCartney, Adidas, Levis, Gucci, Speedo, Volcom, and many others.”

Aquafil’s largest consumers of ECONYL fibers are commercial carpet mills. However, trend-setting names in fashion, in addition to top companies in the automotive industry (especially in the hybrid and full electric categories), have embraced the powerful “circular economy” message of ECONYL fibers.
