Looney & Associates Team Up with Indiewalls to Provide Inspiration for Dallas Elementary School
Art positively impacts students from kindergarten to high school. Research shows that participation in the arts helps improve students’ skills, including communication, problem solving, and an increased focus in the classroom.
Additionally, seeing people similar to themselves in art has measurable positive influences on the student’s self-esteem.
For its holiday service project, hospitality design firm Looney & Associates volunteered with the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). They chose to sponsor the W.W. Bushman Elementary School in Dallas, as well as the Dallas Independent School District Parent Center, which provides enhancements to enrich the educational experience. The company collected and donated much-needed resources in December by collaborating with others in the industry.
“Combining good work and ‘good works’ is something I believe in,” said Jim Looney, president of Looney & Associates. “Partnering with DISD has been a rewarding experience and gives our designers and staff the chance to use their talents in the most meaningful way, by giving back. We often take for granted how much art and design can influence and perhaps motivate the youngest among us.”
Many industry partners donated school supplies, sporting equipment, and even new furnishings. For example, New York-based art consulting firm Indiewalls donated prints for the school’s hallway and commissioned a large, custom mural by local artist Sanah Brown for the cafeteria.
Students were able to get their hands dirty while learning more about art by helping Brown paint the inspirational mural, which depicts students in colorful graduation robes.
“Enriching public spaces through art is a core tenet at Indiewalls,” said Ari Grazi, co-founder for the company, “as is supporting local communities, so this collaboration was a natural one for us. We hope the artwork inspires the students at W.W. Bushman Elementary to embrace creativity and positivity for years to come.”
