Product Q&A: Cumberland Furniture’s Tantus Bench

March 27, 2009

NAME
Tantus

BIRTHPLACE
Grand Rapids, MI

PARENTS
Gary Lee Partners and Cumberland Furniture

SIBLINGS
My family is known as the Modo Collection. I have many seating, table, and bench cousins (like me). I also have big strong casegood siblings known as Tantus Desk and Tantus Credenza.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?
An independent and confident gentleman. Someone who understands the value of fine things and reflects quality from every angle. Solid and reliable, sophisticated yet approachable, friendly and smart—but not arrogant.

FAVORITE COLORS
While nearly every industry calls for some degree of formality, it is important to be aware of the norms of your setting. Timeless neutrals of muted coloration tend to work best in warmer climates, while the rich dark colors of elegant hues are best in cooler climates. Nothing is more versatile, however, than a range of browns in classic, stylish tones.

WHAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL?
My precise profile and fine tailoring. More important than the leather seat and fine woods that compose the suit that I wear is the man who fits it for me. Once you find a good tailor, you must never give his name away, not even under the threat of bodily harm.

ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT
I believe that if you make something well, the process of consuming more resources to replace it can be avoided.

WHAT’S YOUR BEST FEATURE?
Well the ladies always tell me that the meticulous fit of my unpadded seat and accompanying corner connection produce a striking addition to any room. While that flatters me, I personally find the angled inner edge of my precise profile to be my best feature.

WHERE DO YOU FEEL MOST AT HOME?
Wherever there is someone who appreciates good designs and classic looks. Museums are one of my favorite places, but I love a good library or gallery as well.

PROUDEST MOMENT
Every time a lady looks at me and whispers, “Hey handsome …”

ASPIRATIONS OR DREAMS
To be included as a striking addition to any interior and to become an approachable timeless classic that is specified by designers today, tomorrow and a century from now.
