CHICAGO – The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and InterfaceFLOR recently announced the eighth annual IIDA Student Sustainable Design Competition (SSDC).
The competition was created to celebrate and encourage sustainable design and thinking and to award individuals who demonstrated consistent, creative incorporation and the understanding of sustainable principles. 2010 marks several new and exciting developments for the competition, helping to elevate the visibility of students’ work.
This year, IIDA introduces a new competition website, http://ssdc.strutta.com, which will serve as a one stop portal for competition entrants and viewers alike. Entries to the competition will be accepted online from October 18 through November 8. In addition to the judges’ selections for grand prize and first place awards, IIDA is opening up the competition to virtual promotions by entrants, and will award a Popular Vote category. Visitors to http://ssdc.strutta.com will have up to three weeks to help select the Popular Vote winning category award from all the entries.
The grand prize winner will receive a $2,000 cash prize, a special feature on the IIDA student blog and the IIDA website, and a spotlight in the IIDA "HIRE ME" campaign. The first place winner will receive a $1,500 cash prize and will also be featured on the IIDA student blog and on www.iida.org. The submission with the most votes will win $1,000 and an IIDA student membership valid for one year. The winners of the 2010 Student Sustainable Design Competition will also be featured in the winter edition of quad, the IIDA student newsletter.
Entry fees this year have been cut in half from previous years in an effort to increase student participation and the attention to innovative sustainable design practices. The entry fee for the competition is $10 for IIDA Student Members and $20 for Non-Members.
The jury for this year’s competition will include: Elizabeth Williams, IIDA, Marmon Mok, San Antonio, Texas; Liset Robinson, IIDA, Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta, GA; and Kelly Bauer, FIIDA, Richard + Bauer Architecture, Phoenix, AZ.
