A San Francisco Treat

While visiting the Academy of Art University in San Francisco a couple months ago, I was able to make my way over to the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood where (and don’t let Williamsburg, Brooklyn tell you otherwise) the original hipsters were born.

It’s always important to carve out some exploration time whenever you travel, despite whatever reason you are there for. While visiting the Academy of Art University in San Francisco a couple months ago, I was able to make my way over to the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood where (and don’t let Williamsburg, Brooklyn tell you otherwise) the original hipsters were born.

For proof, check out this awesome article in Vanity Fair about the area’s coming of age during the “Summer of Love” in 1967. But before you do, take a look at my own little photo montage I was able to compile here. The vintage shops and quirky restaurants that line the streets afford some great design inspiration for anyone with an affinity towards the grit and grime of anti-establishment movements or for a laid back style that’s perfect for easy, free livin’.
