Wine + Design to Take Place October 2
SitOnIt Seating and IDEON are pleased to announce that the annual Wine & Design gala will take place Thursday, October 2. Designers, industry partners, and guests will enjoy this year’s venue, the Newport Dunes Resort. The 110-acre resort is located in Newport Beach, Calif., at the entrance to the Back Bay Nature Preserve and the Newport Bay Conservancy. The mile of beachfront will serve as the perfect backdrop for the event.
Entering its fourth year, the event has brought in more than $75,000 for The Common Thread for the Cure, a foundation created to unite the furnishings industry in the battle against breast cancer. The theme, “creativity takes courage” is a quotation from Henri Matisse and captures the essence of the event—looking for creative ways to help in the fight.
Wine & Design began as a small fundraiser at The Muth Interpretive Center, and was the vision of Mike Mekjian, principal of SitOnIt Seating and IDEON.
“Last year’s event set records for participation and fundraising, putting us a step closer to our goal of making Wine & Design a national industry event,” Mekjian said. “This year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet.”
Southern California and Chicago’s leading A&D firms will design unique wine labels for a selection of Russian River Vineyards wines: the award-winning Sonoma Coast 2013 Chardonnay and Russian River Valley 2013 Pinot Noir.
Kyle Barnes, environmental design and engineering studio principal of Walt Disney Imagineering, will judge this year’s event. The wines will be served at Wine & Design and will be available for purchase on the Russian Rivers Vineyard website for one year following the event.
